Tatenhill Spitfire event 15th August (same weekend as Sleap). I have advised them to contact Derby area.
Sleap (1940’s Weekender) 15th/16th August. Booked in the North Staffs MVT as the Italian Campaign. Spoken to Kevin, there is no need to book vehicles in individually. MVT Liability Insurance booked. Names wanted, as there will be wrist bands. Friday will be set up day. No helicopter this year. There will be a free dink and a burger on Friday night.
Penkridge militaria 16th August £2.00 entry or free if in military uniform.
Apedale Valley Light Railway 23rd August. The consensus was that we would rather just go for a single day (Sunday). Crewe members are Not attending. Have informed them we will not be attending
We have ways fest 11th – 13th September
Foxfield 2027 “Martins Law” will apply as there will be more than 800 visitors per day. This means bag searches on the gate. There is an issue to be resolved as to where this will take place & who will be conducting the searches. The public entry price has gone up. It was suggested that Foxfield engage with the Scouts and/or the cadets to help with the car parking.
3. Area Secretary Report: If anyone knows of a show they wish to attend, please let me know and I can arrange addition PPLI cover.
Area AGM: On the agenda will be an update to the Area members details i.e. change of address, change of telephone number or change of vehicle etc.

3. AOB: For the Christmas meeting it is proposed to have a road run and meeting/lunch at a pub. Rudyard Hotel proposed for Christmas road run venue.

Shropshire & Borders feedback: There was a BBQ & entertainment in the evening. Pip said thanks to all that attended. The MVT is looking to run Marshalling training and a safeguarding course and looking for somewhere in North Midlands area.

3. AOB: Florence get-together feedback: Rudyard Hotel proposed as the alternative.
Foxfield 'War Wheels' feedback. Thanks go to all those who helped with the set-up of the Pillbox, marked out the field, set-up banners, helped move vehicles, maned the MVT trailer, organised the road run etc, etc. Boyan was very impressed and did not realise the show was so large, she said that the trailer would be back next year. Pip Robinson attended on the Saturday (standing in for Windscreen editor) so I hope there will be an article published! Changes proposed for next year include Disabled Parking signs, use of Cadets to help with parking, vehicle information boards (I have magnetised mine and have plenty of magnetic sheet to donate).

Foxfield War Wheels 16th/17th May. MVT trailer booked. MVT National event. Rob will be on site from Wednesday; he also had a plan for the larger vehicle near the MVT trailer. Everything on the site plan should be in place before Friday. The trailer is due to arrive Thursday lunch time. The pillbox will be coming on Wednesday and we need about 5 people to lift it. We could do with some tables and flags for the straw bales. The road run to the Boar has been arranged with the landlord.
Iron Bridge 1940’s weekend 23rd/24th May. (Same weekend as Smallwood.)

3. Area Secretary Report: There are a number of MVT Constitution updates on the web-site, including the need to nominate the Area Secretary one month in advance of the Area AGM and to vote you must be affiliated to the area for at least one month. MVT have a Facebook policy. Ours is not MVT, but is under our control. Yorkshire MVT held a military car boot sale at Yorkshire Air Museum Insurance update; Howdens Classic and KGM have confirmed that arena insurance is included, but there must be 2m between vehicles and maximum 10 mph. Other insurance companies should follow, but worth checking. This only applies to Military vehicles, not classic cars, tractors, etc. The digitised library of British vehicle manuals etc, is now available on the MVT website. 2027 is the 60th anniversary of the MVT. There is a group planning events, speak to Boyan if you want to be involved. Guidance has been produced for community involvement (i.e. School visits, Prom rides etc). Mainly common sense, but worth consulting if you are planning such an event.

Discussion followed at the meeting as to whether this was going to be something we wanted to do. If you are going, then you could go to Duxford on the 12th/13th September and then set off in convoy from there to Harwich for the Sunday night ferry. Rotterdam to Hull ferry for the return on the 20th Arrive back in Stoke on the 21st. Rob is not booking accommodation; you will need to do your own. If you want to go on the ‘Run to the Bridge’ you will need to book early.

Foxfield War Wheels 16th/17th May. MVT trailer booked in and needs to be manned. Rob will be on site from Monday. Planned to put some NS vehicles near the trailer, suggestion is M16, M8 Ward La France, Diamond T and a jeep or two. Not vehicles intending to go on the Saturday road-run to the Boar. It would be better to have the larger vehicles on site by the Friday evening. Modern camping (motorhomes, tents etc) in the field next door, there will be some space for military tents near the MVT trailer. Public entry price is as per last year. War Wheels posters will be available soon.

2026 shows. The Area Secretary took his vehicle to The Longest Yarn 2 exhibition in Tean earlier in December, and whilst there he was asked whether he’d be attending the Cheadle event, which is scheduled for 6 June 2026!
The only other event coming up is the Stoneleigh militaria fair on Sunday 1st February 2026
3. Area Secretary Report: The Area Secretary attended the AGM in person, and publicised The Longest Yarn 2 event to those attending.
The national project to scan all the documents which the MVT holds in archive is progressing well, with 105 documents scanned so far, in addition to the I.F.Green Books. Members might like to know that the magnetic vehicle stickers are again available in the online MVT shop. The Area Secretary continued that the AGM was told that the question of lack of insurance when in a display arena is still being pursued at national level – there followed some discussion regarding this point within the meeting.
The Area Secretary confirmed that various awards had been presented at the AGM, and emphasised that the winner for the mileage award in a wartime vehicle (The Wilkinson Sword Award) had done just 665 miles, whilst the equivalent winner of the award for a post-war vehicle had done 560 miles. He once again encouraged North Staffs members to record their vehicle mileage and apply for the national award – some North Staffs members far exceed this mileage every year!
Moving on, the Area Secretary reminded members that there is a £50.00 Area award for mileage, which will be presented at the Annual Diner in February. He asked members to apply for this award, which is open to all North Staffs Area members, by advising him of their mileage by email, text, Facebook message etc. The award is for the driver rather than the vehicle, which cannot be a daily user and you cannot win on consecutive years.

3. AOB: Cub dinner/buffet dates is 7th Feb. Room hire now paid for. The Buffet will be £7.00 per head. The Area Secretary asked members to let any member not present at the meeting know the date. He has a suggested playlist for the DJ, so if members had any suggestions for inclusion could they please let him know.
Voting for the Ray Wilcox award is now open. ANYONE who was a member of the North Staffs in 2025, is eligible to vote/be nominated. The cut-off date for votes is by the end of the next meeting, 29th January 2026.
Rob Brindley is organising a winter road run to The Mill at Worston for lunch at 13:00. It was decided that this will take place on Saturday 27 December starting at the Boar Inn, Moddershall at 12:00. Members were advised that the food needs to be pre-booked, so if anyone would like to take part please let Rob know by Saturday 21 December that they’ll be attending and their food choice.
Once again, a reminder that The Longest Yarn 2 is still on until the end of the month, you can park your military vehicle out front, and the organisers will be very pleased to see you.
Rory Wilcox advised the meeting that he’s involved in the making of a documentary about Reginald Mitchell, in collaboration with a local museum. Production will begin in March, any questions, or comments, please contact Rory.
